Curfew to be lifted, lockdown to continue in Punjab till May 31: CM Amarinder Singh

Punjab government announced on Saturday that curfew will be lifted from across the state but the statewide lockdown will continue. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s government in the state has decided to extend the lockdown till May 31.

The state government has also appealed to the people of the state to help authorities impose the lockdown till the end of May. We will be making announcements that will bring relief to the people of the state as lockdown 4.0 begins on May 18, CM Amarinder Singh said. He added that the government’s strategy cannot succeed without the help and compliance of the public.

All cities in Punjab will be opened so that businesses can be allowed to reopen. Only areas and streets where patients who test positive for the novel coronavirus are found will be sealed. This policy will be the state’s strategy going forward and will come into effect from May 18 onwards.

All of the latest announcements were made by CM Amarinder Singh during a live address to the nation on Saturday evening. As of May 16, Punjab has 657 active cases of Covid-19. While 3 patients are on oxygen support, one is critical and on ventilator support. The infection has claimed 32 lives in the state as of yet.
