Dr. Avijit Kumar Das

I have completed Ph.D from IIEST Shibpur, India under the supervision of Prof. Shyamaprosad Goswami. After my doctoral research, I moved to Japan as postdoctoral fellow in the group of Prof. Yasuhiro Shiraishi, Osaka University (Oct, 2016 – March, 2017). In the same year 2016, I was awarded the internationally prestigious “Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellowship” for 2 years from “Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation”, at University of Siegen, Germany under Prof. Dr. Heiko Ihmels in the domains of DNA binding, intercalator-receptor conjugates, light-up probes and dual-mode chemosensors (May, 2017 – Apr, 2019). In May, 2019, I got another award as University of Bordeaux Initiative of Excellence (IdEx) Postdoctoral Fellowship in the research group of Dr. Nathan D. McClenaghan, CNRS/Université Bordeaux, France. In 2021, he have joined as assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry, Christ University, Bengaluru. To date, I have published 36 peer-reviewed papers (3 as corresponding author, 17 as a first author; 16 as co-author having significant contributions) in various reputed International Journals publishers like ACS, RSC, Wiley, Elsevier, Taylor and Francis etc. According to Google Scholar record Citations – 1755, H-index- 25, i10-index – 34: I am active reviewer of various international Journal and books like ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, The Journal of Physical Chemistry, ACS Omega etc (American Chemical Society), Dyes and Pigments, sensor and actuators b-chemical, Microchemical Journal etc (Elsevier) Analytical Science Advances (Wiley-VCH) SN Applied Sciences (Springer Nature), Reviewer of book chapter entitled “Conjugate Addition Reactions in Organic Synthesis 2nd Edition” (Elsevier). My research area is mainly focused on the multistep organic synthesis to develop various fluorescent ligands and dyes for the selective detection of biologically important analytes like metal ions as cations (Zn2+, Hg2+, Cr3+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Al3+ etc), anions (F- , CN- , AcO- , Phosphate etc) and different reactive species (reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, hydrogen sulphide, hydrazine, nerve gas etc). For the practical application, the bioactivity of those synthesized molecules has been examined by the study of their sensing or binding phenomenon inside the cells by microscopic imaging. On the other hand, I have extended also my research area for the development of various fluorescent intercalator receptor conjugates (styryl and photoacid ligands) and study their binding behaviour with different types of DNA (duplex and quadruplex sequences) in vitro and in vivo.
