After multiple delays, Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom will finally see the light of day. The first trailer of the movie was released on Sep 15 and gave fans a sneak peek of how Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry/Aquaman has changed since his last solo outing in 2018. Turns out, he is now a father and has settled into his new role as the King Of Atlantis.
However, as all his fellow Justice League members can attest, trouble is always around the corner.
The two-minute trailer opens with a voiceover of Aquaman narrating how his life has changed.
“I am now a husband, a father and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
We then cut a scene of Aquaman in Atlantis, stopping an underwater machine from wreaking havoc.
“Oh yeah, I finally got a job. I’m the King Of Atlantis.”
As the trailer shows Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s David Kane aka Black Manta, we finally get a sense of this movie’s plot. Black Manta is now the proud owner of the Black Trident, a dark weapon from ages ago, and is out to get revenge on Aquaman after the death of his father in the last film.
Cue devastation on Aquaman’s homes on land and in sea.
To stop this threat, Aquaman now has to rely on someone unexpected: Patrick Wilson’s Orm/Ocean Master, Aquaman’s half-brother and the villain of the first movie.
The trailer finally ends with a montage of the two siblings working together to stop the enemy, complete with a shot of Aquaman riding a seahorse.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director James Wan revealed that he “always intended the focus of the second movie to be the relationship between Arthur and Orm”.
This comes after actress Amber Heard, who plays Mera, claimed that her role in this movie had been reduced following her trial with former husband, Johnny Depp.
Wan said: “The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm. So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one is a bromance action-adventure movie.”
Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom is set to be the final movie of the DC Extended Universe and will be released on Dec 20. DC Studios will then reboot the entire franchise with the brand-new DC Universe which will be overseen by Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran.
