Dr. Subhayan Sur

Dr. Subhayan Sur is currently a Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellow, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), India, (Assistant Professor Grade) at the Dr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Institute, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (DPU), Pune, India. Dr. Sur’s research interests include the exploration of non-coding RNA in oral cancer and the investigation of natural compounds for cancer prevention and therapy. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biotechnology from the University of Calcutta, India, in 2016, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Saint Louis University, MO, USA, where he focused on the molecular mechanisms of cancer, miRNA and long non-coding RNA, cancer prevention by natural compounds, and the pathogenesis of hepatitis C virus (HCV) and SARS-CoV-2 in COVID-19 patients. Dr. Sur is actively involved in research, teaching, and social activities. His current DBT-funded project is titled “Comprehensive evaluation of long non-coding RNAs in oral squamous cell carcinoma diagnosis and therapy”. He has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals, including EMBO Reports, Hepatology, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Virology, Molecular Cancer Therapeutics, Cancers (Basel), and Cell Communication and Signaling, among others, with a total of 968 citations, an h-index of 19, and an i10-index of 23 as of June 2024. Dr. Sur is also a co-editor of the book “Technologies in Cell Culture – A Journey From Basics to Advanced Applications”. He has participated in numerous national and international scientific conferences. He is currently a reviewer for several international journals and a member of the Society of Biological Chemists (India).
