Significant achievement :
Development of fine grain rice NDLR 7 ( Nandyal sona ) for replacing BPT 5204
(Samba Mashoori) and releasing during 2016 which is notified in 2018 (399 E on 24.1.2018).
and now it has became popular and replaced 95 % area of BPT 5204.
Salient features of the variety : variety is suitable to both seasons due to medium duration ( K: 140 days, R : 135 days) than BPT 5204 (150 days), BPH and blast tolerant, grain type, taste, cooking and keeping quality are similar to that of BPT 5204 and rice can be cooked immediately after harvest. This variety rice cannot be mixed with other varieties rice. Hence farmers of scarce rainfall zone( Kurnool, Ananthapuram), Kadapa, Guntur, Prakasham districts of Andhra Pradesh, parts of Telangana, parts of Karnataka and parts of Tamilnadu states are prefering this variety than BPT 5204.
NDLR 7 has high market price for the raw paddy Rs.300 more per bag of 75 kg and @Rs.400 more per bag of 100 kg grain (milled rice) than BPT 5204.Under organic cultivation the milled rice of NDLR 7 was sold @ Rs 3500 for 50 kg bag.

Studies for two years 2015-16 and 2016-17 results : Soaking in 1 % KH2PO4 (60 %)
followed by distilled water (54.7 %) in 1:1 ratio for 6 hrs recorded significantly higher
germination percent.
