SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF DR SWAPAN KUMAR GHOSH
Congratulations to Dr Swapan Kumar Ghosh for winning “International Best Researcher Award” on oncology which was conferred by international body, ISSN, at IIRAC 2024 (International Research Award and Congress, June 30, 2024), for his modern research and excellence on human cancer.

Dr Ghosh is currently an Associate Professor, Molecular Mycopathology Lab. Cancer Research Unit, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College (autonomous), Rahara, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He has established this Cancer Research Unit since 2013 after visiting and returning from Harvard University, USA. More than 207 publications including 92 peer reviewed articles of research published in Nature group, PLOS group, Elsevier, Springer group, American chemical society, etc., and two patents are in his credit. He has experience of research work with Professor (Dr) Late Ananda Mohan Chakrabarty, father of recombinant bacteria, Pseudomonas putida, distinguished University Professor, University of Illinois, Chicago, USA. His innovative COVID-19 inactivation machine has been patented and marketed. He is author of 17 book chapters and four books.
He conducted several R/D projects funded by various agencies or Government bodies. Presently his research area and interest are in some burning issues like anticancer drug development from mushrooms. He is expert on working on human cancer cell lines like HeLa, SiHa, CaSki (Cervical cancer), PAN-1, MIAPaCa -2 (Pancreatic Cancer), MCF7, MDA-MB-231 (Breast Cancer), A549 (lung cancer) and also in mice and Drosophila models. His lab. is well equipped for isolation, characterization of natural products or bioactive compounds like polysaccharides, phenolic compounds, etc. and also to run several anticancer and anti-metastasis assays. Ultra-sophisticated instruments like Flow-cytometer (BD), RT- PCR (Biorad), PCR (Bio-rad), Western bolting apparatus (Biorad), Inverted Fluorescence microscope with Phase contrast, Microtiter reader (ELISA), CO2 incubator, etc. are available in his lab.
Several PhD students have been PhD awarded under his guidance, some of them are in USA for postdoctoral research in cancer. He has some MoUs with other countries like Germany and USA for development of research.
Recently his valuable research findings on killing of mosquitoes by Trichoderma, cancer management by mushrooms, plastic degradation by microbes, COVID-19 inactivation by innovative machine, etc. have created sensation among global and regional scientists and several News media and TV channels have telecasted them focusing his valuable works.
Dr Ghosh has been awarded by several awards like Best Senior Scientist, Distinguished Scientist, etc. by several scientific societies and in 2021 he has been honored as “Excellence in research” by UNICEF, international body. Government of West Bengal has honoured him as board member for evaluation of R/D projects submitted in DSTBT. He is in editorial board members of some reputed Journals and acts as reviewer of some reputed journals. Dr Ghosh has delivered several invited lectures in International and National Seminars or Conferences in country and abroad.
Dr Ghosh was born in 1962 and brought up at a small village, Khayrasole under Birbhum district, West Bengal, India. His father, Late Sudam Ch. Ghosh was a small Marchant and mother Late Dasu Bala Ghosh, was a house-wife.
